Pumpkin masala/ Gummadikaya masala

Gummadikaya masala is one of the traditional dishes in India. There are many health benefits of pumpkin like it is good for heart and loweres the cholesterol level. It also fights against cancer. Apart from these there are many health benefits with pumpkin. This recipe is simple, easy and most tasty way to stay healthy. Now let’s see the ingredients and method of cooking. 


Pumpkin – 1/2 kg

Onions – 2

Chillies – 4

Coriander leaves –  one small bunch

Ginger garlic paste – 1tsp

Mustard, cumin, garlic, dry chillies, curry leaves – 2tsp

Salt – 1tsp

Red chilli powder – 1tsp

Turmeric powder- 0.5tsp

Garam masala & coriander powder – 1.5tsp

Oil – 2tsp

Preparation Method:

Take a pan and heat the oil in it. Once oil gets heated we need to add mustard, cumin, dry Chillies, garlic, and curry leaves to it. And after a minute we have to add Chillies and onions. Mix it well then after 2minutes add salt and a give a stir. Once the onions looses raw smell add ginger garlic paste and turmeric powder. Mix everything evenly and then add pumpkin pieces to the pan. And give a perfect toss so that all the onions and pumpkins should mixed properly then pour 1/2 cup of water and close it with a lid and rest it for 15minutes. 

Then after 15 minutes we need to remove the lid and mix the curry well. And then add some garam masala and coriander powder to the gravy and if required add some water and mix it well and rest it for another 10minutes. Now our tasty spicy pumpkin masala is ready to serve. At last you can add coriander leaves and dish out the curry. This can be best served with hot rice and ghee.
